She has numerous diplomas and certifications in each of the modalities she uses in her work.
Registered Nurse
Marian O’Dowd, RN, CAP, CPCC, was raised and educated in Ireland. After receiving her degree in nursing, she moved from Ireland to San Francisco, where she worked as a registered nurse. Her experiences include: acute care at St. Luke’s Hospital in San Francisco; public health for the city of San Francisco; corporate wellness at Levi Strauss and Chiron; and hospice care at Hospice by the Bay and Zen Hospice Project.
Marian cites her professional work, most especially as a hospice care nurse, for deepening her understanding of what gives life its meaning. Again and again, she saw what, at the end of the day, mattered most to people: being connected to others.
Ayurveda
Keenly interest in the holistic approach to health, Marian began studying Eastern medicine in 2002. Her formal education in Ayurveda began in 2005 with Ayurvedic practitioner Dharma Bodhi Sarasvati. She went on to study with The Kerala Academy and then she moved to New Mexico to study with Dr. Vasant Lad at the Ayurvedic Institute for two years. Her extra curricular trainings include: the healing art of marma (Vedic acupressure), AyurYoga teacher training, Ayurvedic postpartum care and two trips to India. She graduated in 2010 as a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, CAP.
Chi Nei Tsang
After a traumatic encounter, Marian was encouraged to get bodywork to help process the event and to promote wellness. Working with a Chi Nei Tsang practitioner she underwent a deep healing. So much so, that she was compelled to learn it and bring it to others. In 2006 she graduated from the Chi Nei Tsang Institute in Oakland, California.
Life Coaching
Growing up in Ireland, Marian was schooled in the art of relating by those around her. She watched people bond and strengthen each other through connection. Life Coaching emphasizes the inherent power of human relationships and all that can be accomplished when intention is set, support is given and focus is steadfast.
Marian studied at The Coaches Training Institute in California, becoming a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) in 2002. Additionally, she underwent ORSC’s year long leadership course in 2003-2004 and is also a certified Relationship Coach.
Realization Process
The body is the repository for our experiences; the store house for our memories. When Marian came to see the impact of trauma and how it can compromise quality of life when left unresolved, she pursued further studies. She was drawn to the work of Judith Blackstone PhD and underwent certification in the Realization Process.
The Realization Process Teacher training has three modules: Meditation, Subtle Self Work and Embodiment. She was fully certified in 2015.
